Surprised
...that out of so many people at work who tried to breastfeed, so many were unsuccessful or went to pumping only or stopped quickly. It brings home just how difficult it can be. The only reason we are at all successful is because of very sensible support from so many with solutions that included formula, nipple shields and lots of hand holding. Sometimes if you tell women that "breast is best" and they need to push through it no matter what, you just lose it all. Let me never forget how difficult it was so I can be supportive of others.

I hear that. BF is NOT easy.
I wish I had more supportive people so that I could have BF. The nurses in the hospital totally turned me againist even wanting to try anymore.
Still hard. Almost sixteen months later.
I just had that conversation with a couple of women the other night. It seems like a lot of women could use more up-front support in the hospital to encourage them to try multiple things, and to let them know that it's NOT easy, and that they're not the only ones who've struggled. And, let me just say it, some of those LC's are wack-o!
Definitely SG. And BE HONEST in the classes about the difficulties. Mine wasn't. But my LC's were AWESOME. They included shields and formula tricks to help me get it.
