PCOS, Hello Old Friend

I just had a 50 ish day cycle without any drugs. I'm pretty sure I even ovulated twice. Oh the miracles of not cycling for almost 2 years. My best cycles were 40 some days on Metformin. I don't expect this to last though. Although I haven't been eating perfectly, it hasn't been awful yet my cholesterol is the highest it's ever been (and my good cholesterol the lowest.) My triglycerides are high, my blood pressure is still not normal, and my testosterone is climbing. I expect to say hello to my good friend Met again sometime this year. It's not for the fact that we want to make more babies. It's for the fact that I want to be healthy. I hate the highs and lows, the crazy blood values and the shitty side effects of unchecked PCOS.

Our World in Bullets

  • We are still in the midst of company and craziness. Since that won't be over until sometime in February, my blogging shall lack intelligence until then.
  • E has decided that breakfast foods for every meal is a grand idea. Cheerios and blueberries are high on the list thank you.
  • His birthday party was fabulous. He had so much fun playing with the big kids.
  • We've decided that those sudden sleep problems were a mix of not enough play time and a growth spurt. He's always VERY clingy and weepy during growth spurts. Hell, I remember what I was like when growing him and needing bucket loads of sustenance, and I can't blame him.
  • So he's back to his normal sleep patterns and bed time routine now. Mommy is grateful.
  • Jen suggested some blog posts on Tension Decreasers and Tension Increasers. Very interesting. The Tension Increaser fits E to a T when anything in his world is unstable or uncomfortable. Otherwise, he's easy all the way or at most a decreaser. Where do you fit in? I'm very much the same as E, though I do rant more than the baby does. ;-p. (Big shock there since apparently he's my male clone.) Where do your children/spouses etc fit in?
  • We got the BOB stroller for Christmas. I like.

Set of Baby Questions - New Territories

  1. E doesn't want to go to bed at his normal time anymore. He often stays up until 10pm whether it be because he's crying in his crib, and it's hard enough that we go in every so often to calm him or because we just give up and he plays forever. Should we just enforce a bed time?
  2. If we enforce a bed time, should we use Ferberizing or what works best for really stubborn, hard criers? He's the kind that can cry for 2 hours (as he did when he was really upset at Urgent Care) and make himself vomit. What has worked for parents of with little ones like that?
  3. Isn't it normal that he throws some of the food he is trying to eat as "finger foods?" He still eats some too. Is he done when he starts throwing all of it? Or should we start hand feeding him more? (Daycare lady is confusing me a little with this one. I thought we were on the right path, but I don't know.) Feeding tips welcome!!!
  4. He still refuses sippy cups but will take a bottle or a cup itself. Problem is, daycare doesn't give him water if he won't drink out of a sippy. Sigh. There are lots of positives but sometimes I really really bemoan the lack of making all the decisions ourselves. If he drinks fine out of a cup/straw, I wish we didn't even have to worry about sippies.
  5. Any tips on sippies/drinking? He really likes his bottle AM and PM. My family always let that go on for as long as the baby wanted it (usually no later than 18 mos or so). Thoughts on this? I know Breast Feeding is different, but that is encouraged as long as both desire it. Is a bottle considered not?
  6. He's loving playing so much and is starting to act more "hyper." Thoughts on calming him for bedtime? Baths don't work. Milk doesn't work. Reading sometimes does.

Letters to Babybutt - one year edition

Happy One Year my sweet little man!

At 9:26pm exactly one year ago, you came into this world whimpering. I'd like to say screaming, but you weren't feeling so well, so the doctors had to help you a little bit. Mommy and Daddy worried about you and loved you so much, and everything turned out ok. Back then you were helpless, sweet, cuddly, teeny and insecure. Now you are independent, often giving me looks that say, "I do it myself Mommy!" You're also no longer teeny. You're still taller than average, and though you are a skinny little thing, the chunk thighs remain. The skinny I blame on Daddy. The tall I blame on Granddad.

You remain sweet and loving though a bit of the spirited toddler you will become shows at times. Play has become your life and animals, books and trucks are your main interests. You're also going through some attachment with us again and cry when we're parted. Daddy is even included now. Speaking of Daddy, that has become your new favorite word. You copy almost all sounds you hear and have been trying different words. No, Daddy, Mum, Ba (Bottle) and Boo (Book) have become fairly consistent.

On the physical side of things, you've been pulling up on everything and starting to cruise a little. The cutest thing ever is that when you're legs are getting tired, you slowly lower yourself to the ground to avoid falling. Figuring out how things work is another big new physical skill. It's pretty amazing to watch you discover how a knob turns or how something opens.

Speaking of cute things, some other fun new developments are that when you try to put something in your mouth, and I say no, you immediately try to hand it to Mommy with a sad face. Even when I explain to you that you can hold it, just not eat it, you still try to give it to me. It's adorable, but Mommy feels badly for you at the same time! You've also started smiling when you realize your picture is being taken. All I can figure is that you've seen us do it because we certainly have not taught you that.

Some of the traits that have been emerging: stubborn, determined, loving (as always), eager to please, conscientious, playful, serious and careful.

Watching who you are becoming is a privilege and a joy. Thank you for coming into our lives. Being your parents is the most fulfillment we could have ever asked for.

Love,
Mommy and Daddy

Thanks and Ack!

Thanks for all the help! Things are looking up on some fronts. On the sleep front we have our ups and downs, but I think the overall trend is that he is improving.

And did you know... my sweetest will turn ONE YEAR OLD tomorrow at 9:26 PM? (edited because I'm a bad mom!)

Please tell me others have had trouble (and by trouble I mean sometimes unnerving trouble) adjusting to life with a baby as a married couple in an otherwise happy relationship? Confidence issues in so many ways. No regrets on my part, but worries about the other. So much of it is awesome, but sometimes I worry about weakness in the foundation of the pretty.
